Workshop Description
3 Day Oil Painting with Leon Holmes:
Leon is a very passionate and fun instructor and is often praised for
his uncommon teaching methods to open the minds of his students to new
ways of painting and seeing the world in front of them.
Generally Leon will start the morning session with a demonstration
explaining his approach to Plein Air painting. In the afternoons
students will be able to put this new knowledge into practice while
Leon guides each student through their own painting process.
Leon will enthusiastically explain the effects of light and how it
relates to colour, he will demonstrate how to quickly and effectively
work with the oils to get a result on the canvas. Throughout the
workshop Leon will discuss a number of painting areas, including
colour mixing, tonal values, light and shadows, drawing and
perspective, composition and general Plein Air equipment.

Plein air in Paradise Workshop
Spend 3 days working outdoors capturing the beauty and aloha spirit of Maui with modern impressionist Lori Putnam. Lori rarely teaches workshops, but she longs to share with you her love of the island and its magical landscape as she sees it.
Lori's workshop will include:
2 painting demonstrations, fully communicated every step of the way;
1 full day and 2 half days of individual participant painting time with guidance from Lori;
group discussions and sharing each day.
Participants can expect to leave this workshop with:
more awareness of their individual strengths as well as clarity on what they should be focusing;
a better ability to see nature’s natural designs and color harmony;
motivation to stretch boundaries as a means of moving forward in artistic growth.
Above all else, Lori’s approachable teaching style is both giving and fun. Be prepared to bring your sense of humor!
This workshop is open to all levels, however plein air experience is strongly suggested. While all mediums are welcome, Lori’s expertise is primarily in oil and gouache.
This workshop takes place prior to the Plein Air Invitational 2025
